| This tree was discovered by Steve Sillett deep in the old-growth redwoods of Del Norte County. I defer to Van Pelt's book Forest Giants of the Pacific Coast and his eloquent drawing and description of this specimen. Ol' Jed was a suprise to Van Pelt because all the other big specimens that have been discovered are located in either Washington or British Columbia. It is obivious that the healthy competion with redwoods put a charge into this beauty--and probably more that have yet to be found. |
